Summary and Overview

Children and adults learn differently (and sometimes less) when information or instructors are digital. A variety of social and perceptual factors contribute to these effects and the contributions of each likely change as a function of age. Gen Z (13-24-year-olds) differ from previous generations, representing the first cohort of digital natives, growing up in a culture in part defined by ubiquitous screen-based technologies and social media. Understanding the perceptual and social factors influencing learning and why and how this cohort consumes screen media has great scientific and practical importance, especially now, when much of our social, professional, and academic lives have moved online.
